Verdict
STAR SURPRISE is nominated here ahead of Toms River Tess and Takeaway. Michael Bell's colt has improved with each start, rounding things off with a win at Sandown last time out. The form of that success looks solid and with improvement to come this opening mark of 81 may prove within his grasp. Toms River Tess didn't show too much on debut at Kempton in June but then improved to win a Doncaster maiden comfortably. She started at 9/2 that day so her improvement was probably expected and if she handles the likely slower ground today then she should go close. Takeaway drops in grade having been far from disgraced in the Newbury Super Sprint last time out. He is stepped up two furlongs in trip but he is bred to get is and he probably wouldn't mind were it to rain prior to racing. Mayhab is better than he showed at Pontefract last time out and the longer trip and easier ground today will be in his favour, Honourable Knight's gallant third to Byrony here reads well and Kieren Fallon is back on board, whilst Spartic was disappointing at Catterick last time out and he may be at his best when able to dominate from the front. That looks unlikely here so along with Prophet In A Dream he is taken on with the selection Star Surprise.
