In depth

Verdict

A good race and Perfect Stride can take the measure of Fitzroy Crossing and Gross Prophet. Perfect Stride was a 440 000 guineas purchase at the sales and connections saw a small return on their outlay with victory in a Sandown maiden. With entries in the Dewhurst and the Racing Post Trophy, he is clearly held in some regard and it will be disappointing if he can't pick up this prize. Fitzroy Crossing rates as the benchmark for this event. The hold-up performer ran poorly at Haydock but has shown his better form with smaller fields obtained. Gross Prophet has been busy this term and is a likeable individual. He dug deep to see off Silver Wind at Newbury but will need to be listed class in order to give weight around to these rivals. Quick Release hails from a yard sending out winners although the formbook suggests that there is a little bit to do to trouble the other trio. Perfect Stride is likely to be at short odds but looks open to further progression this afternoon.
