Jo Crowley's course and distance maiden winner, Champagne Fizz, has held his form reasonably well in handicaps since then but he seems a shade high in the weights and in a competitive event what can only be a tentative vote goes to LACONICOS with New England rated the best of the rest. The selection disappointed at Newbury last time but earlier form on the Polytrack at Wolverhampton was fair and the eight-year-old has solid claims racing off a 1lb lower mark than when second in his last two races on the surface. December remains a maiden after 12 starts and of more interest may be George Baker's Iguacu, who has been running to a consistent level of form in similar races to this and he should be thereabouts again. Just one win from 23 starts tells you all that you need to know about Filun, while Inquisitress has more to do than when a narrow winner at Brighton last time. Nick Vaughan's New England has been running well in sellers and claimers of late and has claims off what seems a fair mark but Laconicos has an obvious chance and he looks the one to be with.
