As ever in a maiden, the market needs watching, but tentatively we'll support MAL AND DAVE ahead of Goodbye Earl and Pepper Lane. Dandy Nicholls' sprinters should always be respected; he's among the more experienced here, and was runner up in a claimer last time out. This is a step back up in class, but a similar performance may be enough to land this. Pepper Lane disappointed second time out after an impressive debut for David Barron, who's gone off the boil a bit recently after an impressive early campaign. Goodbye Earl was fourth in the Lily Agnes but outclassed in a listed contest at York; the most exposed, this may turn out to be her level. Mel Brittain saddles two runners; Nabrina was a cheap purchase and doesn't have any fancy entries, while Gower Sophia was poor last time out after making a decent start to her career. Brasingaman Eric may be the pick of Geraldine Rees's two runners on jockey bookings, but debutante Sparking has a decent York entry in August. The market may lead us, but we'll side with Mal And Dave.
