Of the five to have raced previously, Thirsk fourth Kedross probably has the best form on offer but she appears to be nothing out of the ordinary and this may go to one of the newcomers with preference for Fragrant Star over Raging Mind. The latter, a half-sister to three five furlong juvenile winners, comes from Tim Easterby's stable that has made a decent start with their juveniles and warrants respect but, on the rain-softened ground, Fragrant Star makes more appeal. Clive Brittain's daughter of Soviet Star is bred to appreciate further than this trip but, with the going likely to be very testing, her stamina will come into play. The stable's two-year-olds are often forward enough on their debuts to play a hand and, at the likely odds, Fragrant Star looks worth a bet. Open Mind was well held when second behind a useful type at Pontefract on her debut and looks the best of the remainder.
