The presence of Deano's Beeno at the top of the handicap ensures that six of the 11 runners have to race from out of the handicap proper so those at the top end of the weights look the ones to concentrate on with Crazy Horse earning a narrow vote over Carlovent. Len Lungo's gelding has not been at his best over the last 12 months but is better treated now as a result (11lbs lower than when winning this race last year), goes well here and, with the forecast rain in his favour, he looks worth a bet to return to winning ways. The top weight Deano's Beano should help to ensure a strong gallop and, while Martin Pipe's gelding has been a more consistent performer of late, he may find one or two too good under his big weight. Stable mate Carlovent sprung a surprise when winning a similar contest at Aintree for the second year running last month and has run well since at Cheltenham and Sandown. However, he may be facing an unequal struggle against the handicapper now and is probably best left out of calculations. October Mist will appreciate any further rainfall and may fair best of the remainder.
