In depth

Verdict

Stonehaugh, Yorkshire Blue and Gunfighter make the shortlist here, with Gunfighter taken to score. Stonehaugh has won twice and hit the frame in half his twelve starts, and he is brought back in distance here after a solid run on his re-appearance in a small field at Beverley, where he was run out of it close home. This stiff uphill six furlongs may suit and he can go well. Yorkshire Blue has not won in handicap grade since October 2006 but he ran well last time to be third, staying on strongly at the finish. He has slipped down the handicap and can reach the frame again. Gunfighter won twice over seven furlongs at the end of last season, and after a pipe opener this time around, he shaped encouragingly when third at Newcastle over this shorter trip, slowly away but doing his best work at the finish. This stiff climb to the line will help him, and Gunfighter can shoot his opponents down here.
