In depth

Verdict

This looks an open affair and the market willl be the best guide to those fancied to run well on their debut, but Bryan Smart is capable of unveiling a useful type, and Master Rooney may be good enough. Mark Johnston's newcomer Pegasus Lad is opposed. He looks likely to appreciate further than this six furlongs and the yard is going through a very quiet spell. Only three of his juveniles have won in 29 attempts. Mick Channon's Flyit is a half-brother to three winners, and out of a mare who won over seven furlongs. The trainer is going well with his two-year-olds and Flyit can be expected to give a good account. Master Rooney was an expensive purchase at 300,000 Guineas. A son of Cape Cross, out of a winning sprinter, he looks sure to have been taught his job well, hailing from a yard who had two winners at Musselburgh on Saturday, and has an astonishing 37% strike rate with their two-year-olds. Master Rooney can lead his rivals home.
