Ivy Creek has solid credentials and is the one to beat, with Samuel, Tungsten Strike and Hard Top seen as the main dangers. Ivy Creek was successful over a mile and a half on his only visit here in Listed company two months ago, after which he duly followed up in similar company at Pontefract. Geoff Wragg's charge was then asked to tackle Group 2 opponents in the Princess Of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket last month, and considering that he did not get off to the best of starts, did well to finish as close as he did to Papal Bull. He therefore has nothing to fear today, and as long as he gets the trip, will prove a tough nut to crack. The maiden Samuel looks a decent stayer in the making, and has a similar chance to Gordon Stakes also-ran Big Robert on a line through Tranquil Tiger. Tungsten Strike has been set some pretty stiff tasks and has to give weight away all round, while Rayhani, whose trainer Marcus Tregoning has won the last two renewals of this opening event, has to bounce back after his Goodwood Cup flop. All in all, the one to side with has to be Ivy Creek.
