In depth

Verdict

A poor maiden to open proceedings and Staked A Claim is taken to score from Tenancy, with perhaps Alto Vertigo likely to ge best of the newcomers. The selection is no good thing in a race like this, but drops back in trip from 7f to the minimum. David Barron's colt has finished fourth in all three of his starts, so has at least a modicum of ability. The most attractive feature for us is first-time blinkers, which it is hoped will sharpen him up enough to win. Tenancy looks next best and was not far away in a maiden company at Ripon last time. The cheek pieces stay on here so look for another worthwhile effort. Alto Vertigo was down the field on his only start in a Newcastle bumper last year, but Patrick Haslam has his yard in good form and it should pay to watch the market for clues about his flat debut. Violet's Pride probably looks best of the rest, and Staked A Claim is taken to emerge victorious.
