Plectrum can make the step up in trip pay off, with King Forever, Prime Number and newcomer Sir Edward Elgar all to be noted. Plectrum should now be ready to strike after two promising efforts so far, both of which have been over seven furlongs. The ex-French four-year-old was third to subsequent winner Coup d'Etat on his Kempton debut back in March, and then had his sights lowered when sent to Beverley on his only other racecourse appearance nine days ago. He had the worst of the draw that day but still managed to finish second, and with that effort under his belt, and the step up to a trip more in keeping with his breeding, Peter Chapple-Hyam's charge can make up for lost time. King Forever has had more opportunities, but his run behind Unfurled here means that he must not be entirely ruled out. Prime Number has shaped very well in two starts so far, here and at Newmarket last time, while any support for John Gosden's debutante Sir Edward Elgar should be noted. Those mentioned should all have no trouble in losing their respective maiden tags, but on this occasion Plectrum is the one to be on.
