AVONTUUR was unlucky not to get back to winning ways last time and with this field looking less progressive he is taken to get back to winning ways; the shortlist consists of Silly Gilly, Aggbag and Dark Moment. Ruth Carr's gelding has been holding his form well since a Wolverhampton win earlier in June. He now has to race off a mark of 61 which is 4lb higher than his highest winning mark, however he ran well in defeat off it on Saturday and this looks a similar standard of race. As long as he doesn't get too far behind on a track where prominent runners fare best, he looks sure to run well. He's A Humbug is tumbling down the weights but for good reason, Lujano's recent record on the turf is woeful, whilst Big Slick ran well in defeat last time and shapes as if a win may be imminent. Aggbag is in good form but the drop in trip on this track may not be ideal, especially given his wide draw, so a bigger threat may be Dark Moment who scraped home at Musselburgh recently but his style of running may mean that the handicapper fails to catch up with him and a penalty may not stop another big run. Silly Gilly's last win came off a 4lb lower mark in May; she is effective on a quick track as that Thirsk run helped to show and it would be no surprise to see another big run, although she is terribly drawn for a front-runner. As open a handicap as they come, and we will tentatively side with Avontuur.
