Compton Eclipse is turned out quickly after getting no luck in running last time and is taken to gain compensation at the chief expense of Dark Shah, Brief Goodbye and Manx Fizz. Gerard Butler's charge appeared thrown in under a 5lb penalty at Nottingham on Monday having scored by an impressive five lengths at Brighton previously but was badly hampered and was heavily eased in the closing stages. The lightly raced son of Singspiel is set for a significant rise in the handicap but is still able to race under his penalty here so should take the beating with better luck in running on this occasion. Dark Shah has been far from disgraced in better company of late and ran another encouraging race when fourth at Newbury last time so has to be respected despite having to concede weight all round. Brief Goodbye is well suited by both trip and ground as he showed when landing an apprentice event for today's rider at Salisbury last time and is another to consider off the same handicap mark. Manx Fizz is just 4lb higher compared to last month's Musselburgh success but recent evidence suggests she is in the handicapper's grip so Compton Eclipse can take advantage of a lenient mark.
