in touch, switched left, squeezed through gap over 1f out, stayed on under pressure to chase winner inside final furlong
pulled hard towards rear, headway 2f out, every chance entering final furlong, kept on one pace
with leader, ridden halfway, weakened final furlong
made all, hard pressed final 2f, all out towards finish
chased leaders, ridden, effort 2f out, one pace when hampered over 1f out, no chance after
Not a strong race by any stretch of the imagination and this looks a good opportunity for Fitzwarren to open his account at the main expense of Multiple Choice and Blue Moon Hitman while Flying Bantam is an interesting newcomer to note. The selection put up a useful performance when narrowly denied in a large field of maidens at Pontefract earlier in the month and confirmed the merit of the form when, apprentice ridden, he was a staying-on third in a minor event over course and distance last time. Neville Bycroft's charge gave the impression that stronger handling would suit so the booking of Eddie Ahern, who partnered the son of Presidium at Pontefract previously, looks significant. Multiple Choice has been well held in useful maiden-company to date but this represents a drop in grade and Nick Littmoden's colt should do better at this level while Blue Moon Hitman is moderate having been comfortably beaten in a claimer last time but still looks best of the remainder to have raced. The Richard Fahey-trained Flying Bantam makes some appeal on breeding and wouldn't need to be out of the ordinary to take a hand but Fitzwarren sets the standard and looks the one to beat.
