In depth

Verdict

Platinum Pirate lines up in good form and can complete a hat-trick at the expense of Zakfree and Great Scott. Karl Burke's three-year-old gained his third success for the stable at this level when scoring at Leicester three weeks ago, showing once again that soft ground is very much in his favour. With that in mind, he has conditions to his liking here and has no more to do so must go close again. Zakfree has finished second on each of his three outings this term and is another that evidently thrives under today's conditions. He is still a maiden though and will find it hard to open his account if the handicapper takes his placed efforts into account. Great Scott was considered useful last year after winning a decent juvenile event at Beverley, but has not progressed and it is no surprise to see Mark Johnston putting him in this company again. It did not have the desired effect at Pontefract last time though and he is worth opposing. The rest are just as uninspiring, and with plenty going for him from a going and form perspective, Platinum Pirate is the one to beat.
