Pentecost won this race in both 2003 and 2004 but still remains rated 100 despite not having been in particularly good form this season so the seven-year-old may be best watched and preference is for Prince of Thebes, who gets the vote ahead of the in-form Hartshead. The last mentioned has won his last two starts over seven furlongs at Catterick and Newcastle and Alan Swinbank's gelding has solid claims under a 3lb penalty over a trip that holds no fears. Prince Of Thebes looks a potentially well-handicapped horse though and he is preferred. John Akehurst's gelding lost no caste in defeat behind Spectait in the totesport Mile at Glorious Goodwood last week and a reproduction of that effort may well suffice for a gelding who is set to go up 6lbs in future handicaps. Appalachian Trail is consistent but is proving to be expensive to follow, while Flipando could probably do with some help from the handicapper. That is not the case with Prince Of Thebes though and he is taken to show that his Goodwood run was no fluke.
