Doctor Brown could hardly have been more impressive than when making a winning debut at Leicester 10 days ago and Brian Meehan's gelding is hard to oppose here in a race where the main threats look to come from Armigerent and Eddie Jock. The last mentioned has shown progressive form of late, following up his Brighton maiden success with a Newmarket nursery victory. Not disgraced at Goodwood in another nursery subsequently, Michael Bell's gelding has to be respected but this looks tougher and he may be booked for a place at best. Ian Wood's Going Straight is going the right way but needs to improve further to trouble the judge, while Johannesburg Jack has not come up to expectations so far and may be best left out of calculations. Mark Johnston's Armigerent would take all the beating if reproducing the form shown when second to Strategic Prince at Newmarket but has disappointed since then and a safer option looks to be Doctor Brown, who is taken to follow up his Leicester success.
