In depth

Verdict

Rocamadour can get the better of Vortex and Momtic. Rocamadour appears well treated by the conditions of this event as he is officially rated on 110 but can meet Momtic (106) on levels, and gets 7lb off Vortex who is rated a pound lower. Mick Channon's charge gained his last win in Listed company in April 2005 and since then has mixed it with Group 1 opposition in the main. He was hampered at the start of the Lockinge at Newbury, but never looked like justifying pre-race support and finished last of nine, so hopefully this ease in grade will signal a revival. Gay Kelleway has always had faith in Vortex, and indeed he managed to score at Group 3 level last year, but really he is at his best in and around Listed company, and if over his Hollywood Park exertions, should give a good account. Momtic was a close third in a hot heritage handicap at Sandown recently, and can hold his own in this grade so should not be disgraced, but the BHB ratings favour Rocamadour who gets the vote.
