Mark Johnston is not known for his great success in nurseries but won this 12 months ago and again looks to have claims with Palo Verde but he may want a faster surface to be at his best and a safer option in an ultra competitive contest looks to be Ponty Rossa, who is preferred to Frontline In Focus. The selection has won his last three starts, latterly in a similar contest at Newmarket when value for further than the winning margin, and he is taken to defy an 8lb rise in the weights. Onenightinlisbon has rather harshly gone up the same amount for winning a much weaker race at Thirsk, while Valdan is turned out quickly again having been put in his place by Dubai's Touch last week and may be best watched. Gentleman Pirate could be of interest on his debut in this grade after the three runs necessary for a handicap mark, while First Mate is hard to weigh up after just two starts. Frontline In Focus has done nothing wrong and has to be respected but may want a faster surface and a safer bet looks to be Ponty Rossa, who is taken to win again.
