John Gosden has won this in recent years with Cracksman in 2017 and subsequent St Leger winner Logician last year. He runs DARAIN this time and the 3.5million gns purchase faces his first real test on the back of novice victories at Newbury and Newmarket but may well be up to the task. Mogul returned to winning ways in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood when Highland Chief and Subjectivist filled the places, though the Ballydoyle colt had earlier finished behind Pyledriver when the latter landed a Group 2 at Ascot before struggling in the Derby. Berkshire Rocco wasn’t disgraced behind Santiago in the Queen’s Vase at Ascot but Juan Elcano could only manage third over a shorter trip in the Dante here last time. Roberto Escobarr is a similar type to the selection having won a novices' race here in good style and we’ll know more about the Haggas colt after today.
