Som Tala is preferred to Cool Customer after he dropped a significant hint that we have still to see the best of him when getting the better of Liberate at Salisbury last month. He is fancied to uphold the form today, while Bauer is also very much respected now that he has proved he knows what is required to win a race. The last named has steadily improved this season and fully appreciated stepping up to a mile and a half when he scored at Newbury in mid-June. A 7lb rise has to be taken as fair for that performance and he may still have more to offer. Sin City - a former stablemate of Bauer - swapped hands for 80,000gns at the start of the campaign, so has obviously shown his connections plenty to enthuse about at home. As a son of Sinndar out of a half-sister to Kayf Tara, he may still have plenty more to offer now he has proved his fitness. Cool Customer has shaped up well this term and has to be respected. However, he does have to prove his effectiveness on firm ground and, in a race where no quarter measures will be accepted, he looks a risky proposition from top weight. Therefore, we turn to Som Tala, who has really got his act together now an emphasis has been placed on his stamina. Mick Channon's charge has numerous options open to him and it will come as no surprise to see him make a quick reappearance if all goes well today.
