Verdict

Not the strongest renewal by any means but the vote goes to KITE WOOD on his seasonal reappearance; Manifest and Wajir may emerge as the biggest dangers. Saeed Bin Suroor's gelding was the favourite for the St Leger last season but had to settle for second behind stablemate Mastery. He has the potential to do very well this year in the 'Cup' races as it looks a weak division and he can start off here by winning on his reappearance. Manifest is less experienced but this Henry Cecil-trained colt has the scope to feature today; his Harbinger run has been franked by the winners' exploits since and if he gets this trip slightly better now a year older he could be involved in the finish. Purple Moon was further behind Manifest at Newbury last month in the John Porter Stakes and needs to improve on that; this globe-trotter may have bigger fish to fry on the continent later in the year. Nanton is adaptable and will appreciate the bigger field today after a solid second to Jukebox Jury at Newmarket, Furmigadelagiusta looks likely to struggle in this grade, whilst Oasis Knight should like the drop in trip but despite swapping the visor for cheek-pieces he is passed over. Wajir is a player on the ratings; he does look the stable second string but no Godolphin stone can be left unturned and this French Group Two and Three winner is afforded respect. The mare Clowance is admirable but on her run behind Harbinger she is safely held although it must be pointed out that she did start as favourite for that race and looked progressive last year. An intriguing race, where the vote goes to Kite Wood.
