There's little that's solid to cling to in hope of salvation but a number of the field have been running in some quite nice maidens and could be facing their first realistic opportunities. AVOW, Zaffature and Woodface is the suggested short-list. Highcliffe Bridge brings winning form to the table so she's entitled to respect whilst Ibmab was staying on in a seller over six furlongs at the track last time so should appreciate the longer trip. Ratings suggest that Durham Town has the ability to figure whilst the connections of Musiara, Tiger Hawk and High Resolution are enough to warrant a second glance in their direction. Woodface is fitted with a tongue tie and blinkers in an attempt to get the best out of him; his maidens were won by Lucky General, Rodrigo De Torres and Buzzword who are all above average and Brian Meehan has been a profitable trainer to follow here but he is just one from thirty three in claimers over the past five seasons and nought from eight in this age-group. Marco Botti's claiming successes have all been with older horses but a near one in four strike rate at least suggests that his horses are realistically placed and the form of the Kempton maiden in which Zaffature was an eight length fifth was given a boost when the winner finished third in a Group 3. However, she's overlooked in favour of Avow who was stepped up to Listed company having failed to catch Dick Turpin at Windsor; his run in a Glorious Goodwood nursery is also best overlooked and his trainer's recent form is a little better than the bare figures suggest with a number of the yard's juveniles hitting the woodwork.
