Verdict

An interesting race in which all have claims of sorts, with our narrow vote going to POWER SERIES ahead of Sweet Child O'mine, with Damietta and Fonterutoli expected to get involved at some stage too. John Gosden's three-year-old was very well backed to land a maiden here last time and did so comfortably, despite the fact the winning margin was a nose. Robert Havlin was almost too confident that day but the handicapper hasn't taken many chances on the back of it, recognising the fact that he was value for a fair few lengths and therefore rating the horse 85. Still, this imposing sort is bred to be more than a handicapper and can continue his progression at a track which clearly serves him well. Sweet Child O'mine ran well on her sole try here before switching to Southwell to record the second of her two wins. She clearly enjoys the Fibresand but this surface isn't a problem either and the filly promises to stay the extra yardage, but a 5lb rise in the weights makes life tougher and we're narrowly opposing her this time. Damietta is another filly taking a step up in trip but she should stay without any problem and could surprise a few under Dettori, especially if the others allow her a soft lead. Fonterutoli needs to step up on his juvenile form but his trainer Marco Botti is getting the most out of his horses, but we remain happy to side with the progressive Power Series in this interesting heat.
