Verdict

This has the look of a two horse race despite some solid efforts earlier in the season by Little Perisher and it may be worth taking Chaperno on with LUCKY GENERAL. Little Perisher appears to have lost his way after a promising start to the season although it's possible that Chester may not have suited him last time. He's not ruled out completely but he does have something to find on the book with the main protagonists. Chaperno appeared to flounder in the mud at Nottingham on his second start so significant rain would be detrimental to his chances. If that doesn't materialise then he deserves to start as favourite for this prize having finished in front of Lucky General in the Vintage Stakes. The ground and his tame finish that day are concerns though and have seen connections reach for a visor; it may be a better option to side with the Hannon runner. He failed to give his running at Goodwood which could conceivably have been down to the track but his form prior to that reads well and he should have the scope to cope with any sort of ground so Lucky General could turn the tables.
