In depth

Verdict

Plenty of dead wood in this low-grade event and, with the Jonjo O'Neill yard continuing in excellent form, the vote goes to Colonial Rule. The son of Pleasant Colony has held his form well of late and put up a particularly good effort when third in better grade at Huntingdon last month. Effective over the trip and on the ground, the six-year-old has solid credentials and should go well under Mick Fitzgerald. Lorgnette may have found conditions too testing last week and is better judged on her previous effort when second against useful opposition over course and distance in January. Recent Taunton winner Turaath is not the easiest to predict and went out like a light at Sandown next time so looks one to be wary of but Wartorn and Bathwick Annie both ran encouragingly last time and have place claims in a moderate contest.
