A competitive race to get proceedings underway and from a shortlist of Kokkokila, Songmaster and Barbirolli we will side with the last mentioned. Jockey bookings can be hugely significant in these amateur riders' races and Simon Walker is a big plus for our selection. This filly ran well in a handicap last time when she finished second behind Dove Cottage at Goodwood; General Flumpa was well down the field in that race. Our selection is open to plenty of improvement as she is unexposed and with the ground to suit she sets the standard for the others. Songmaster also finished behind our selection last time and although on these terms Alan King's 5-year-old should be competitive, we think Kokkokila is perhaps more progressive. Barbirolli is on a decent mark and he ran well last time when a close third behind Wizard Looking at Folkestone. However, he is thoroughly exposed and a place looks his best bet here. Summer Bounty has gone well here in the past so he is another to enter calculations, but for the winner we will stick with Kokkokila.
