ALPHACINO is thought good enough to land the opener with Gulf Punch and Mary Helen both worthy of note. The Pat Haslam-trained two year old has run seven times this season and ran a personal best when finishing an eye catching second to Sultan's Choice at Catterick last time out. Most of his form has come at selling or claiming grade and if he can recapture his best form he will not be far away come the business end of the race. Gulf Punch ran well in a claimer at Wolverhampton on her penultimate run but ran poorly when upped in grade at Southwell last time out. She will be more at home against today's company so any moves in the market should be noted. Mary Helen won a seller at Yarmouth last month on a fast surface but found the soft conditions at Catterick were not to her liking next time out. There is plenty of rain around the country this week and to enhance her chances it has to stay away from Thirsk. Alphacino should have conditions in his favour and looks the percentage call.
