MATA KERANJANG has a glaring opportunity to finally get rid of his maiden tag; Nesmeh and Tarooq are interesting newcomers to keep tabs on in the betting market, while Forks seems to be going the right way and can make the rest aware of his presence. However, the Paul Cole-trained selection sets a heady standard for the others at this stage and it will be very surprising if he isn't good enough to break his duck. The handicapper has him on a mark of 100 at the moment - a rating which is rarely seen in a race as moderate as this. However, Cole is resorting to the use of fitting blinkers on Mata Keranjang to (presumably) help him keep his mind on the job. Considering that he has already tried his hand in a couple of Group 1 races, a Thirsk maiden worth £7,400 ought to be a formality. Shouldn't it? Really?
