Great Chieftain, Sir Orpen and Manouche are the three against the field in this competitive one mile handicap, and a chance is taken that Great Chieftain can win at a nice price. David Barron saddles his Catterick maiden winner, Sir Orpen and the top weight looks sure to go well. Despite some very good runs in defeat as a juvenile, it took that little Catterick maiden for Sir Orpen to lose his maiden tag. The trainer is in good form and this is his local track. Sir Orpen is a good yardstick for the others, but top weight may prevent him winning. It is worth noting that Manouche lost his maiden tag on very testing ground, and with rain forecast, he may be a shrewd selection. However, Kevin Ryan's runner has disappointed on the all-weather since and appears limited. A chance is taken though with Great Chieftain. Richard Fahey is hopeful his three year old will have a good campaign, and after some encouraging displays as a two year old, he shaped well on his recent visit to the track, getting within a length and a half of the useful Royal Envoy. He can be expected to come on for the run, and Great Chieftain can win at a nice price.
