This novelty race did not have a jockeys list at the 48-hour stage, so some merit might be attached to discovering it but, this said, we will select Scarlet Flyer ahead of Resplendent Nova and Kavachi. This is a bit of a headscratcher but Scarlet Flyer might provide the answer. Now rated 73, he was placed off 76 at Newbury over seven furlongs last season and, having had a pipe-opener over six furlongs for the season, has as good, if not better, claims than most for this race, including a good draw. Resplendent Nova holds fair place claims and Bomber Command would hold a very good chance based on his best all-weather form. Optimus has been running over further of late so a drop in trip might help, while a number of the others can be given shouts based on their best all-weather efforts but you will have to bank on them repeating them. Desert Dreamer is now rated seven-pounds lower than when winning at Brighton last summer, although more-recent efforts haven't matched it, and Genari would hold strong claims if recapturing his 2005 best and maybe the market will guide. Finally, Undeterred looks to be in decline but Kavachi cannot be ruled out based on his Goodwood win of last August. Once again, then, Scarlet Flyer gets the vote.
