The penny has dropped with Edn Reem, who is selected to land the opener; possibly at the main expense of Southandwest and Celtic Sultan. The last named showed plenty of promise last season and did well to get placed in a Listed race last August. He faced some very stiff tests in two subsequent outings and his form figures do not do him justice. Being by Celtic Swing, a bit of cut in the ground will not do him any harm, but he has a big weight to carry for his reappearance. Southandwest was clobbered by the handicapper after finishing second in a big sales race in Ireland last summer and is another that doesn't look especially well treated. Still, he is not without a turn of foot and has to be respected now that he has a run behind him. However, Ebn Reem has the edge on recent profiles and, as Michael Jarvis has been a very profitable trainer to follow when he sends one to Ripon, this looks a good opening for his charge to strike whilst his iron is still hot.
