held up mid-division on outer, headway going well 2f out to chase leaders, ran on well inside final furlong to lead post
started slowly, towards rear, ridden over 3f out, kept on final furlong, not reach leaders
close-up, chased leader 2f out, every chance 1f out, not quicken inside final furlong
slowly into stride, in rear, ridden over 3f out, some headway over 2f out, never dangerous
tracked leader, led over 2f out, hard driven final furlong, ran on, headed post
dwelt, held up and behind on outer, ridden over 3f out, stayed on steadily from over 1f out, kept on nearest finish
led, ridden and headed over 2f out, gradually weakened
tracked leaders on inner to over 2f out, soon one pace, weakened inside final furlong
always behind, struggling 3f out
held up mid-division, ridden over 2f out, soon beaten
pulled hard behind, under pressure over 3f out, soon weakened
slowly into stride, towards rear, headway 2f out, stayed on well final furlong, nearest finish, better for race
took keen hold in mid-division, ridden 3f out, soon outpaced
Proud Scholar gets the call here ahead of Bahja, Almansoora and, possibly, Tamalain. Proud Scholar showed plenty of promise when second at Newbury on her debut and is well up to winning a race of this nature. The form of that race is working out with the third, fifth and sixth having scored since, and the fourth will by now have taken part in the first division of this race. Bahja, who cost connections 500,000 guineas, should be smarter for her debut fourth behind Cassydora at Newmarket and also looks set to go well. The form of House Martin's debut fourth is solid enough, Tiggers Touch was fourth here over a furlong shorter on her debut, while Tamalain cost 220,000 guineas and is a half-sister to CD Europe. These will all attract interest, along with Swift Dame, who has plenty to like on breeding, and Scent, who got the hang of things late on at Newbury last time and should improve. Highland Diva is of obvious interest given that she is from the Sir Michael Stoute stable, and the betting should be watched with interest with regard to her chances, and Elizabethan Age showed sufficient promise on her debut to be afforded respect, while Brandexe is from a stable that always warrants consideration in this type of event. Of course, Almansoora, who was just shaded by the decent Vondova back in July on her sole start to date is another to hold strong claims but, overall, we like the look of Proud Scholar, who is taken to pass this particular exam.
