Ability to handle the ground over a mile is the key to this race and so four to concentrate on are Imperialistic, Young Mr Grace, Retirement and Trouble Mountain, and we take Imperialistic to score. The selection has been upped to Group 3 and Listed company for her latest two starts, but has not been up to the task. This drop back to Class C company will help enormously though. Karl Burke's filly won over this trip on soft at Haydock in April and defied a 6lb penalty to follow up at Beverley. She does have to produce a career best to win, but she races handily, which will help, and her penchant for juice in the ground give her the edge in a good race. Young Mr Grace has performed with credit when cut has been evident, but he wouldn't want any more rain. Also a winner at Haydock over a mile this year, he may just have too much weight, but can go well. The same applies to Retirement, whose 2lb drop might not yet be enough to see him get his nose in front, though he should be closer than of late. Of the remainder, Trouble Mountain makes most appeal as far as acting on the surface is concerned. However, he drops back markedly in trip and seems to be better at 10 furlongs or further, so this is a tall order. Therefore, Imperialistic is our choice to take the Ripon Rowels.
