Verdict

The best race on the card by a country mile this, with KINGDOM OF FIFE taken to land it, ahead of Checklow and Military Power. Owned by The Queen, Kingdom of Fife is Sir Michael Stoute's only runner and Ryan Moore's only ride on the card, and they won't be coming just for a day out in the North East. He was just beaten into second by Cheshire Prince on his seasonal appearance at Chester earlier in the month when carrying a couple of pounds overweight, and he'll have benefitted from that run after a six month lay-off. Military Power is also the only runner here for Godolphin who've found some form. He lost his maiden tag here last year, and won last time out when on dirt in Dubai. Checklow has plenty of ability, and should have won more than one race. At times reluctant to go into the stalls, he can be pretty quick out of them. He was a decent second in a similar race earlier in the month at York, and along with Military Power is entered for the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot next month. David Barron's Flipando may have some sentimental support having won this race two years ago, but our preference is for Kingdom of Fife.
