Verdict
Brian Ellison is beginning to hit form and Mr SMITHSON can provide him with another winner; the main dangers would appear to be Mandrake and Ceedwell. The selection shaped with plenty of promise on his debut when he might have won had it not been for a slow start. He disappointed from a poor draw on his next run but he then bounced back to form and although the draw has not done him any favours today he still should be up to losing his maiden tag. Mandrake could be the fly in the ointment as he is a well-bred colt from the Mark Johnston yard and the trainer has a good strike-rate with his juveniles. Ceedwell is another interesting newcomer and this filly has a good draw so she is worth noting in the market, although the stable are not really firing on all cylinders at present. David Nicholls does well with his sprinters so Mal And Dave could be worth another chance, although he failed to build on a promising debut effort last time out. However, Mr Smithson can put his experience to good use and he gets the vote.
