Axis Shield, Mullady Penelope, Desert Dust and Mister Becks form the short list here for a dire finale and we take Mullady Penelope to score. True enough, none of these make much appeal as a betting medium, but at least trainer Anne Duffield is in good form at present, and Mullady Penelope is certainly open to improvement. If she can handle this fast ground then she might even be good enough to step up and take this, so weak is the race. Axis Shield was stuffed on fast ground at Catterick last time and has a bit to prove on that evidence, particularly as a dual Southwell scorer, though she has at least shown she has a modicum of ability. Mister Becks is another who has to prove he handles underfoot conditions and he too seems to prefer the slower surface at Southwell. His best form entitles him to consideration, but he may be short enough in the market, while Desert Dust seems to be going backwards, and we'll chance Mullady Penelope to score.
