Verdict

Mark Johnston landed this event 12 months ago with the very smart Russian Valour and can take this renewal with Beacon Star, with Prince Namid and Caitlin the likely dangers. The selection cost 75 thousand guineas as a yearling and is superbly bred by Stravinsky. The betting will be the concluding factor but against this opposition he looks to have very strong claims. The best of the horses with experience could be Prince Namid who wasn't pushed too hard when fourth behind Word Perfect at Ripon. He will no doubt come on for the run and could be a banker for a place. Concerning the rest of the field the market should provide the best clues particularly regarding the other newcomers Robury and Caitlin. Of the two, Caitlin appears to have the better pedigree being by Intkhab out of a Cadeax Genereux mare. So not too strong a contest and Beacon Star is the one to be on.
