Verdict

This race looks set to go to a newcomer and is therefore hard to be too dogmatic about, but we'll take SAPPHIRE GIRL ahead of Lucky Tale, Little Miss Take and Silca Conegliano. Richard Fahey's filly is bred to be all speed being related to five furlong winners at two, including her half-sister Service who won on debut, so with the yard operating at close to a 50% wins-to-runs ratio with their juveniles and from a good draw she gets the vote. Tim Easterby isn't usually one for debutant winners but he's had two from seven this season so Lucky Tale needs a market check although she's bred to improve for stepping up in distance. Little Miss Take represents Tom Dascombe and has landed the plot draw against the rail. She's interesting on paper being a half-sister to the decent Ajigolo and must be respected. Silca Conegliano represents last year's winning trainer Mick Channon and is another with speedy relatives. She'll be at home on the ground but winning this from stall nine might require an above-average performance. Geesala represents a strong yard and is another who needs a check whilst neither Be A Good Lady nor Majestic Style showed enough on their debuts to get a favourable mention here. The market will of course help guide us in the run-up to this contest but without that to call upon we'll side with Richard Fahey's Sapphire Girl.
