Verdict

From our shortlist in the opener of Spider's Web, Misbehaviour, Capitana, Coustou and Wenger, we will side with Wenger. The Peter Winkworth-trained gelding has just started to get his act together, improving last time to win at Fontwell. He idled there but did it well enough and, if you take literal formlines using Tighe Caster, he holds Misbehaviour, another one that has to be fancied. Overall, he might just be worth supporting again and, as such, gets the vote. Spider's Web looks to hold solid claims, certainly based on his second to I Got Rhythm at Catterick last time. If getting back to the level of form that saw him finish second to Gan Eagla, a good winner only this week, then My Retreat would be in the thick of things, although recent efforts have been disappointing. The fact that James Given sends Maritime Blues down from Lincolnshire - and is also running him in first-time blinkers - has to be acknowledged, while Coustou scores high for consistency of late and that attribute can see him go well today. Gondolin races in first-time cheekpieces today, and the 55-rated Flat winner Beyond The Pole is not without a chance, although others are preferred, and Wages would have a chance if running to his best over hurdles, although he has yet to win a jumping race. The chances of the Nicky Henderson-trained Capitana cannot be ignored as he showed improvement last time and, being only lightly raced, should have more to come. With Martin Pipe's Earn Out already having been beaten in a seller - albeit unluckily - and Monsal Dale having also been beaten at that level, we return to the selection, which is Wenger.
