In depth

Verdict

Dame De Compagnie won a match at Ayr in January and was then hampered when unseating her rider at Sandown. She had a run over hurdles at Cheltenham last month and should be prominent in this but ZAMBELLA (NAP) was in the process of running an excellent race in the Mrs Paddy Power at the Festival when falling three out. She would have finished well ahead of Chilli Filli had she remained on her feet and compensation awaits here if her confidence hasn’t been affected. Momella may need softer ground but she has solid form and is a bit younger than My Old Gold, who also need easier conditions.

Formwatch

Chilli Filli 80-1 (11-2) Held up towards rear, not fluent 2nd, mistake 12th, well beaten when mistake 4 out, never involved, 6th of 11, 23 1/2l behind Colreevy (11-7) at Cheltenham 2m 5f (1) gs in Mar.

Momella (IRE) 5-2fav (10-12) Jumped well, mostly tracked leader, led before 4 out until narrowly headed soon after 4 out, chased leader, plenty to do last, stayed on gamely run-in to lead final 100 yards, won at Exeter 3m lst (1) sft in Feb beating Early Morning Rain (10-12) by 1l, 6 ran.

My Old Gold (IRE) 10-3 (11-12) Held up in midfield, travelled well 12th, disputed lead 2 out, ridden and every chance on approach to last, tired on the run-in, not match for winner, 2nd of 6, 4 3/4l behind Smooth Stepper (11-9) at Carlisle 3m hcp (2) sft in Mar.

Zambella (FR) 28-1 (11-2) Held up in rear, took keen hold, closed slightly 3rd, jumped right 6th, went 6th from 12th, went 5th and beginning to latch on to leaders when fell 3 out, at Cheltenham 2m 5f (1) gs in Mar.
