Verdict
SADDLERS LODGE may be the one to break his duck although Banks And Braes, Circumvent and Society Rock are all of interest. Alan Swinbank's juveniles often derive considerable benefit from their initial outings so it has to be viewed as a positive that enough was thought of this gelding to make him favourite on debut. He was slowly away and green but ran on strongly and will be suited by the extra furlong on offer. Banks And Braes is the first foal of an unraced mare from a smart family; the yard has plenty of depth in this division and the market is likely to be revealing. Circumvent is a half-brother to a dual juvenile winner and is another newcomer from a yard whose youngsters have made an impact on the track this season; once again, the market will be useful. Sand Skier, an 150,000 guineas purchase out of a smart performer, had a raft of entries to choose from and merits close consideration whilst Society Rock and Ice Viking can be expected to improve from their promising debuts. This could turn out to be an interesting heat but preference, at this stage, is for Saddlers Lodge.
