Division One of the 1m 2f handicap is big on numbers and has an open look to it, with Kyle Of Bute and Magic Haze among those with claims, but preference is for COLONEL SHERMAN. Phil Kirby's entire has already won over this trip on the Polytrack earlier in the year and then scored over 12f at Kempton last time. He does have to prove himself on turf, but there is no reason why he shouldn't act on it and he gets in here from a mark 7lbs lower than when recording that latest success, so we will chance him. Magic Haze scored over a mile at Southwell from a mark 2lbs lower than today's and he was doing all of his best work at the business end on good to soft at Doncaster last time. He is well worth another try at the trip and is not discounted. Kyle Of Bute won a Leicester seller over this distance in October and after four defeats in handicaps he has slipped to a competitive pitch, so he has claims, while both Applaude and Tres Froide come from yards in good form and are well worth a check in the market. Colonel Sherman is the one for us.
