A chance is taken Auvergne here. African Sahara and Grey Boy are both rated as dangers, while the betting market will give us a good indication as to whether Lygeton Lad is in the same frame of mind he was in a Newmarket last month. Gay Kellaway's charge has been incredibly consistent on the All Weather, winning ten of his 43 starts. His turf record, although respectable, is not so good and he rarely seems to run two races the same. Grey Boy is unexposed and hails from a yard that are adept at placing runners of his type. He relished the drop back to a mile last time and has each-way claims if he runs up to that level tonight. African Sahara is another that is in good heart and looks sure to make a bold bid. However, he has it to do from top weight and may again be frustratingly short of the mark. Therefore, we prefer to take a chance with the potential of Auvergne, who is much better than he showed a Epsom last time. He failed to handle the downhill sequence at the home of the Derby and is better judged on the best of his previous efforts. Being by Green Desert, a mile is not expected to be a problem for Auvergne and he should not be underestimated in a wide open contest that rounds off the card.
