      Verdict

      MERITORIOUS has been looking one-paced over 1m2f and there is enough stamina on his dam’s side to suggest he’ll stay this longer trip. Baileys Derbyday just failed to catch stable companion Love Is Golden over 1m4f at Chester and was beaten under a length at Yarmouth earlier. He has a 3lb rise to contend with but looks a big danger. Encounter Order placed on soft going at Nottingham last year but showed signs of temperament on his reappearance and Valparaiso probably has more to do than when getting up in the shadows of the post at Doncaster.
