Lord Of The Lodge, who was runner-up in the Gimcrack here in 2019 with today's rival Repartee three lengths behind, has done his subsequent winning on the all-weather including at Lingfield last month for which he's up 5lb. ESCOBAR hasn't won since the 2019 Balmoral Handicap over a mile on heavy at Ascot but ran very well in the Victoria Cup there last time when narrowly beaten, despite not getting the run of the race. More rain would aid his cause but he can return to winning ways though Zip, who led for a long way at Ascot, will be better suited by the shorter trip and is an obvious threat. Tomfre is another soft-ground specialist having completed a hat-trick in testing conditions at the backend of last year and he returned with a very good run in Listed company at Haydock. Ajyaal made a belated winning debut on the latter track in August and landed a Class 5 novices' race at Wolverhampton in October so he's very much unexposed.
