In depth
Verdict
Conkering caught the eye on his latest start and is taken to beat Dunelight, with Kyoto Summit and newcomers Baskerville and Maraval worth a mention. The first two mentioned should have an edge over the rest on experience, and it is Conkering who gets out vote after his eye-catching second to subsequent winner Primary at Leicester in August. The ground was on the soft side then, and James Fanshawe's charge will be expected to improve again here to be concerned in the finish. Dunelight was a beaten favourite at Sandown last time, finishing third in a blanket finish, and the step up in trip should enable this Royal Lodge and Derby entry to go close to making amends also. Kyoto Summit also hold a Derby entry and a longer trip will certainly suit him judged on the way Luca Cumani's colt stayed on at the end of his Leicester debut. There are one or two interesting newcomers to note including Baskerville who lines up today rather than in the big sales race here on Saturday. Richard Hannon won this 12 months ago with Forward Move so his debutante Maraval should not be discounted totally, but we put Conkering in our notebook after his latest effort and have no hesitation in supporting him to go one better today.
