An interesting maiden where a chance is taken on GOLD CRUSHER, while Opus Dei and Excellent Guest should give him plenty to do. The Robert Cowell-trained selection should improve plenty for his debut here over course and distance last month, when he was well backed before meeting with traffic problems and coming home without being knocked about. He should know plenty more this time and he can hopefully show significant improvement. Opus Dei looks to have produced the best form on offer in this race, having made the frame at Newcastle earlier in the month. Even so, none of his opponents that day has run again since, so it is tricky to assess the strength of the contest and he may be short on value as a result. Cape D'Or is perhaps the most interesting newcomer. Richard Hannon has enjoyed a successful week and this Cape Cross colt, who cost 100,000 guineas at two, should be able to show more ability than most in this. However, he does look likely to be better over further next year if pedigree is any guide. Excellent Guest made a pleasing debut up the road at Yarmouth and it would not take much improvement for him to be heavily involved, while Gunner Lindley may not be one of Barry Hills' leading lights, but he is bred to take a hand here if straight enough on debut and a market check is advised. Gold Crusher is another tentative suggestion.
