Verdict

Despite the lack of numbers a fascinating contest nonetheless. The only runner with racecourse experience Signor Panettiere turned in a thoroughly professional performance on his debut when beating Bella Tutrice, who had previously shown promise when third in the Brocklesby. One of the newcomers will have to be pretty smart to lower his colours and David Loder's Hunting Lodge may provide the biggest threat. At 290,000 guineas as a foal, he wasn't cheap, and turns out here in preference to an engagement on Thursday. However, his stable had an odds on shot well turned over at Windsor on Monday and a watching brief is advised. Fine Silver, a half-brother to three winning sprinters, is from a yard that has enjoyed success at this meeting with its juveniles. Any confidence in the market must be noted. Last years winning yard is represented by Savitsky, a 150,000 guinea yearling. He is a half-brother to a couple of juvenile winners and it could be significant that he takes up this option, rather than wait for another maiden later on in the week.
