started slowly, behind, ridden along halfway, never reached leaders
led, headed approaching final furlong, hard ridden and weakened inside final furlong
close up, chased leaders and every chance 1f out, not quicken
chased leaders, under pressure over 1f out, kept on one pace
started slowly, in rear, stayed on from over 1f out, nearest finish
with leader to 1f out, kept on one pace
always struggling and behind far side
held up, chased along halfway, never troubled leaders
held up mid-division, ridden 2f out, no impression
chased leaders, ridden and weakened quickly over 1f out
dwelt, held up, headway well over 1f out, led approaching final furlong, drew clear inside final furlong
dwelt, towards rear, kept on from over 1f out, nearest finish
Not a strong race to get the meeting underway, and most of these would be more at home in selling company. Mr Pertemps has been much improved on the All-Weather this year, winning on three of his four outings. He had obviously started the year a well-handicapped individual, but 18lbs higher now than when gaining the first of those victories, and that, along with the firm ground, may be enough to stop him. Last years winner Chorus will have no problems with the underfoot conditions as it was firm when she took this last year. Of more concern is this 8lbs higher mark. Boisdale is sure to be a popular choice and is still well treated, despite his penalty for winning at Southwell last week. However, as you would expected from a son of Common Grounds he is more at home with plenty of give underfoot. A chance is taken with the enigmatic Mr Stylish to turn around the Southwell form Boisdale. There should be little between them on these revised terms, but with Mr Stylish's ability to handle fast ground a major plus, he gets the vote.
